To clarify inevitable (nearly always) Unix jargon that comes up.

  • Directory: folder
  • Execute: run, launch
  • Process: task (usually small)
  • Thread: process
  • CPU, hardware processor.
  • Console: terminal, command-line screen.
  • Prompt: characters that appear before blinking cursor: a good sign you are logged in
