special directories / paths

Command Meaning
cd or cd ~ change to $HOME directory
cd - or cd - change to previous directory location
ls -ld <dirname> list details of the named directory

special directories / paths

Symbol(s) Meaning
. or ./ current, present working directory (relative)
.. or ../ Parent directory (relative)
../../ Parent of the parent (relative)
~ Home directory, $HOME also works (absolute)
/ System root directory, not a place to stay in! (absolute)
/path/to Common placeholder for absolute path to somewhere (absolute)
